Questions

Is my file uploaded to be hashed?

No. The file is read and hashed inside your browser, and never leaves your device.

How big a file can I hash?

The file is read a few megabytes at a time, so a large file does not fill your device's memory. Files of 200 MB are tested.

Which hash should I use?

SHA-256 is the usual choice for checking a download. MD5 and SHA-1 are still common in reports but are no longer safe against deliberate tampering.

How do I check a downloaded file?

Choose the file, then paste the hash the publisher gives into Expected hash. It tells you which hash matches, or that none does.
