Questions
Which barcode type should I use?
Products sold in shops use EAN-13 (UPC-A in the US and Canada), or EAN-8 and UPC-E on small packs. Cartons use ITF-14. For your own labels, Code 128 takes letters and numbers, and Code 39 suits older scanners.
What is the check digit?
The last digit of EAN, UPC and ITF-14 codes, worked out from the others so scanners can catch a misread. Leave it off and it is added for you; type it and it is checked.
Does this give me a product number?
No. Numbers for products sold in shops come from GS1. This tool draws the barcode for a number you already have.
Why does it warn me about my colours?
Scanners need dark bars on a light background with a strong difference between them. Light bars, or colours close together, may not scan.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The barcode is made inside your browser, so your values never leave your device.
